Ideas for Museum Store Sunday

The level of participation is entirely up to each institution – from as simple as putting up a sign on that day in your stores, or offering a special item or discount to shoppers. MSA members will receive a tool kit and suggestions to help plan for a successful Museum Store Sunday. This is our pilot year, and based on the enthusiasm already being generated among museum stores across the country, in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand so far, we know that the future years of Museum Store Sunday will grow exponentially.

Holiday Merchandise

Curate a beautiful selection of holiday merchandise especially for the day. Perhaps work with a trusted vendor to create some new merchandise, ready to premiere on Museum Store Sunday.

Engage Children

Museum Store Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to creatively engage customers of all ages. Consider setting up a coloring station for children and adults alike, using all of the beautiful art supplies for sale in your store.

Have you ever gone to a pub crawl...how about a museum crawl? Reach out to other local museums in your area and coordinate activities for patrons in your city.

Special Events

Schedule a book signing, work with your museum cafe to host a tea time. Perhaps you can host an outdoor specialty event or ask your institution to offer complimentary entrance to a special exhibit.

Cooking Demonstrations

Invite a local chef to do a cooking demonstration. Offer samples of your unique gourmet foods and teas. Perhaps patrons can sample the fare on napkins and mugs from the store.
